Flexible and Compatible: MVC Machine Vision Controllers

The MVC series machine vision controllers are suitable for demanding image processing applications. These controllers are characterized by their powerful i7 processor, which enables exceptionally high processing speeds and thus can handle even complex tasks in real time. An outstanding feature of the MVC series is the variety of interfaces providing flexible connectivity. One or more machine vision cameras or profile sensors can be connected via these interfaces.

Robot Vision with the MVC Machine Vision Controller

Numerous standard interfaces to robots from different manufacturers enable direct communication between the machine vision controller and robot systems – without programming knowledge and major effort. Pick-and-place applications can be implemented quickly, easily and flexibly without having to develop specific interfaces or use other hardware such as PLCs. In addition to professional calibration targets, predefined calibration routines enable precise calibration in just a few steps and save the effort of converting camera coordinates into robot coordinates. Numerous standard interfaces with sample programs facilitate initial start-up regardless of the robot manufacturer. The “Device Robot Weld Seam Tracking” interface enables robot-guided welding with the machine vision controller in combination with 2D/3D profile sensors.

Your Start with wenglor AI

The MVC series machine vision controllers make it easy to get started with AI image processing – whether you are an AI beginner or expert.
  • Are you already using your own training platform or open source for your AI models? Import these easily into uniVision via the ONNX interface and run your AI models directly on the MVC machine vision controller.

  • Are you looking for a suitable training platform for creating an AI model? Use the cloud-based AI Lab training environment.

High Performance AI Acceleration with OpenVINO™

The machine vision controller uses Intel®'s powerful OpenVINO™ Tool Suite to run neural networks within uniVision – such as Deep OCR, ONNX models and more – particularly efficiently. The toolkit automatically distributes the load for calculating neural networks to the available accelerators of the machine vision controller.

Advantages for the user:

  • Increased performance in executing deep learning models – ideal for demanding real-time image processing tasks

  • Enables scalable execution of even complex deep learning models in ONNX format
  • Efficient use of resources – maximum performance with minimal energy consumption

HALCON Interface for Tailored Programming

  • If setting parameters is not sufficient, the seamlessly integrated HALCON image processing library from MVTec offers unlimited possibilities in the creation of the individual algorithms.
  • Individual programming of scripts in HDevelop enables complex applications to be solved.
  • HALCON scripts created in HDevelop can be loaded directly via the uniVision Script software package.
  • Parameterized modules and HALCON procedures can be linked without restriction.

Network Connection Options

Separate, completely isolated networks significantly reduce the risk of data collisions and conflicts – for example between the uniVision software and the transmitted camera data.

Depending on the model, the MVCx001 (with digital inputs and outputs) offers two, and the MVCx101 (with RTE network) offers three physically separated networks. This separation ensures reliable, interference-free transmission, in particular for the time-critical image or profile data for further processing in the controller.

  • CAM Network: The four isolated CAM ports on the front allow up to four different devices to be operated simultaneously at 1 Gbit/s each on the MVC. Up to 16 devices can be connected simultaneously with the help of a network switch.

  • LAN network: Stand-alone LAN network via two RJ45 ports – ideal for connecting to other networks such as robots, laptops or PCs.

  • RTE Network: Separate RTE network via two RJ45 ports on the rear for communication with a PLC via PROFINET, Ethernet/IP or EtherCAT.

Versatile Applications with Machine Vision Controllers

Machine Vision Controller with Machine Vision Camera

Engine manufacturing in the automotive industry requires a visual, fully automated end-of-line quality control at the end of each production line. This prevents faulty engines from leaving the production line. For this purpose, a vision system consisting of several cameras, lenses and illumination is installed on several robot arms.

Machine Vision Controller with 2D/3D Profile Sensors

During automated welding of steel tanks, it is very important to place the weld precisely. For this purpose, the tank parts are optically measured by 2D/3D profile sensors installed on the welding torch.
